Movie Synopsis: Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) is the fourth MCU Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McFeely & Erik Sommers. It’s set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home and picks up with Peter Parker now fully an adult, living alone in New York after Doctor Strange’s spell erased him from everyone’s memory.

“Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe”. With MJ, Ned, Happy, and the rest of the world having no recollection of him, Peter has gone full-time as Spider-Man. He’s broke, isolated, and “dealing with some real grown-up problems both personally and professionally” completely on his own. The film opens with a Marvel Studios logo that shows Peter’s memories of Ned, MJ, and Aunt May fading – a Back to the Future-style sequence confirming the spell’s impact. Kevin Feige says this is “for the first time… him being a proper Spider-Man,” focused on street-level crime instead of world-ending events.

As pressure mounts, Peter undergoes an “unexpected physical change that threatens his existence”. A Chinese poster and synopsis confirm a “sudden genetic mutation unlocks [Peter’s] new ability to use organic webs, but he also loses control of his body”. Rumors point to a potential Man-Spider transformation, and the mutation is tied to a “strange wave of crime” that emerges across New York. The crime wave connects to several villains: Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), Scorpion (Michael Mando finally suiting up), and Boomerang, among others.

Jon Bernthal makes his MCU big-screen debut as Frank Castle/The Punisher, marking a darker street-level team-up. Mark Ruffalo also returns as Bruce Banner/Hulk, with reports that he’ll appear with an inhibitor device and potentially revert to “Savage Hulk”. Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned are back, though they don’t remember Peter. Sadie Sink joins in an undisclosed role heavily rumored to be Jean Grey. Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Zabryna Guevara from Daredevil: Born Again also appear.

The “unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before”. To handle it, “Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past”. Promos show Spidey fighting the DODC and getting a ninja star to the shoulder, while another still has Peter in Perspex Prison getting vitals checked with Banner. The film sets up a grounded, intimate story about isolation and community, while teasing that Peter’s mutation and the new crime wave may be linked to a “mysterious figure lurking in the shadows” and an “unexpected allegiance”.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31, 2026, as the last solo MCU film before Avengers: Doomsday in December.
