She began her acting career in pornographic films under the name Hitomi in November 2008 with the video “Hitomi’s Debut, ” a stunning celebrity in pornographic videos for Soft On Demand studios. Her debut videos were well-received by the public and placed her 6th in sales, all actresses combined, on the DMM website for the second half of 2008. She was still at number 27 in the rankings in the first half of 2009 and ranked 42nd for the entire year. Tanaka performed in several other videos for SOD during 2008 and 2009 and, in the month of August 2009, the studios release Hitomi Premium Collection 8 Hours , a compilation of clips from the actress’s previous solo videos.

Hitomi traveled to Shanghai with Sasa Handa to represent SOD Studios at the Shanghai Adult Expo held in March 2009. Tanaka debuted with Arashi-Supergirl, from a new studio that is part of the Hokuto Corporation group At the beginning of 2010, she worked for Oppai andMoodyz, two other studios in the Hokuto group. In 2011, she posed for photo albums and performed in videos for Scoreland, an American online retailer. She was also namedVoluptuous Model of the Yearin 2012 and 2014 by readers of the American magazineVoluptuous.
She ended her career in April 2022. In an interview, she stated that she wanted to get married, but never provided further details, and it’s unclear whether she was serious. The fact remains that by ending her career as an adult film star, she can now consider such personal growth, which was previously forbidden by her former status.

Despite announcing her retirement, Hitomi remains active on her OnlyFans account. In 2023, she announced a collaboration with Angela White to produce videos exclusive to the platform.

The authors of the Lastman comic book announced, via the Twitter account dedicated to the animated series based on their comic, that the character Tomie Katana is inspired by Hitomi Tanaka. She also made an appearance in a non-pornographic video, filmed to promote the Lastman comic book upon the release of the first volume.
