Arsenal: Beetleborgs vs. Metal Hero. Part 2

The Stinger Weapons (Stinger Blade, Claw, and Drill)

Each Beetleborg possessed a signature “Stinger” melee weapon: Blue Stinger’s Blade, Green Hunter’s Claw, and Red Striker’s Drill. These were the primary tools for finishing off monsters. These originated from the Stinger Weapons in Juukou B-Fighter. The primary contrast lies in the “Sentai” vs. “Individual” dynamic; while the Beetleborgs used them as a team, the original B-Fighters were often portrayed as specialized units—Blue Beet (Blade) was the leader, G-Stag (Claw) was the power, and Reddle (Drill) provided high-speed agility. The American show softened the combat violence of the Drill and Blade through editing to fit US children’s television standards.

The Astral Laser and Battle Blade

In the second season, the Metallix Borgs utilized the Astral Laser and the Battle Blade as heavy-hitting melee and ranged equipment. These were portrayed as ultimate weapons pulled from the lost Astral comic books. In B-Fighter Kabuto, these were the Bright Pointer and the Astral Saber. The Astral Saber in the Japanese version was a sentient, mythical weapon that chose its master and was used to summon the “Great Shell God,” carrying a much heavier mythological weight than the American version, which treated it more like a rare collectible item found during a scavenger hunt.

The Beetle Vehicles and Giant Robots (Magnavore Jet and Gargantua)

The arsenal included massive transport vehicles and eventually giant robots like Gargantua and Roboborg. In the US show, these were summoned to fight the larger-than-life threats created by the villains. These were adapted from the Mega Herakles and the Kabuterios from the B-Fighter series. The contrast here is the “living machine” aspect; in the Japanese source, these were ancient, slumbering insect deities that required a spiritual connection to pilot. Beetleborgs stripped away the spiritualism, presenting them as high-tech mecha summoned via comic book logic.
